The CEO of the Cabin

A weekend in the mountains revealed powerful leadership lessons on rest, release, and realignment for high-achieving women CEOs ready to reset..

The CEO of the Cabin:

What Four Generations, Bear Sightings, and Market Runs Taught Me About Leading with Legacy

This past weekend, I was tucked away in a cabin in the Tennessee mountains — celebrating my mom-in-love’s birthday with four generations under one roof.

Children ran up and down the stairs in joyful chaos.

Boomers and Millennials battled in friendly, competitive games.

The kitchen never closed — the market runs happened multiple times a day.

And just outside our cozy family bubble? Bear sightings. Real ones.

Every moment felt like an adventure.

Yet in between the motion, I found intentional stillness:

Sitting quietly with my audiobook.

Reflecting in my journal.

Breathing in peace before rejoining the fun.

It was equal parts celebration and reset — a living metaphor for what I coach high-achieving women to build in their businesses and lives.

Life is a never-ending classroom, and as I reminisced about those moments, I distilled the lessons into five quick yet powerful lessons I want to share with you.

5 CEO Lessons from the Mountains

1.Legacy Is Layered

Four generations under one roof reminded me that leadership is not about what we build for ourselves, but what we establish through ourselves for those who will follow in our footsteps. May the path we leave show the way to living purposefully without the undue pressure to do it all.

When women business owners, leaders, and founders reclaim our time and energy, we don’t just avoid burnout — we create new possibilities for those coming behind us.

🕊️ “One generation shall commend your works to another…” – Psalm 145:4

2. Reset Is a Leadership Strategy

I carved out space for myself — a few quiet intervals of stillness, listening, and simply being.

Because even surrounded by love, leaders must know how to retreat and replenish.

If you don’t schedule your resets, burnout will schedule them for you.

3. Structure and Surprise Are Both Part of the Journey

We had a general plan for the weekend. But no one expected bear sightings or five market runs in a single day!

Leadership is the same. We can have a strong framework, but flexibility is key.

The empowered CEO knows how to respond, not just react.

4. Generational Strengths Matter

Whether we were playing cards or cooking together, there were differences in how we approached things.

What could’ve been conflict became collaboration, because we allowed every voice a seat at the table.

Boomers brought wisdom. Millennials brought energy. The kids brought pure, uninhibited joy.

In business and life, there’s value in honoring every generation’s strength. As business owners, we get to cultivate the leaders amongst our team and build a culture that encourages uniqueness and supports the genius in another living, breathing, purpose-infused soul. And when we are all working in the zone of our calling, oh, how sweet life and business are.

5.The Kitchen Table Is a Boardroom

We solved problems, laughed deeply, and shared dreams over meals.

Leadership doesn’t only happen on Zoom or inside a boardroom — it happens around tables, through connection.

That’s the rhythm I help my clients design:

Work that aligns with their faith.

Businesses that serve their lives, not the other way around.

Rhythms that leave room for joy, presence, and real, tangible purpose.

Food For Thought

You don’t have to move to a cabin to find your clarity.

You just need a moment—and maybe a mentor—to help you reconnect with yourself and lead from alignment.

Your next level isn’t louder.

It’s quieter.

It’s clearer.

It’s ready for you.
